Fire Safety
Fire Safety training provides learners with skills and competencies to have a strong base in fire prevention, as well as adequate response to in the event of fire. Knowledge gained from the course can be very fitting to a wide range of areas in life.
Who:
There is no stipulations on who can attend the course as long students are physically capable of carrying out skills gained. The instructor largely tailors to suit health/social care settings.
Instructor:
The course instructor is Richenda Brennan. Richenda is the Day Service Manager of our Day Service here at Kingsriver. Richenda has over 30 years experience in social care. She has experience across a number of areas, in both residential and day service settings.
Where:
The course will be delivered in person at our centre in Ennisnag, Stoneyford, Co. Kilkenny.
How Long:
The course is 3 hours long and runs from 09:30 am to 12:30 pm.

Module 1 – Fire Safety/Science

Module 2 – Classes of Fire and Fire Extinguishing Methods & Equipment

Fire Detection and Alarms (Overview)

Inspection, Maintenance and Discharge of Fire Extinguishers

Participants will then be trained in the practical use of extinguishers

Module 3 – Role of Fire Warden & Emergency Procedures

Pre–fire / post-fire duties of the Fire Warden

General Emergency Plans and Evacuation Procedures

Design and documentation of Fire Evacuation Plans & Records.

Identifying and Managing Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans (PEEPS).

Fire Drills – Running, Management & Evaluation of Fire Drills.
Assessment:
Once the instructor is happy the student grasps the skills and knowledge, the student will be deemed successful.
Certification:
On successful completion of the course students will receive a Fire Safety certificate. This certificate is valid for 2 years from date of completion.
